January is the month of new resolutions. If you are like many people you start this new year with the intention of doing certain things really differently now. Maybe you want to start exercising more, drink less. Or more balance between work and private life. I invite you to choose this year for a resolution of which it is scientifically proven that it can enrich your life enormously. Gratitude as a powerful resolution for the year 2022.
Why is gratitude a powerful intention?
Gratitude is a powerful tool for personal growth. Adults who feel grateful have more energy, more optimism, more social connections and more happiness than those who do not, according to studies conducted over the past few decades. Thus this wonderful quote from the Wall Street Journal : ” Adults who feel grateful have more energy, more optimism, more social connections and more happiness than those who do not according to studies conducted over the past decades. They are also less likely to be depressed, envious, greedy or alcoholics” .
Did you know that you can train gratitude like you train a muscle? Your brain is built to grow what you give attention to. So what happens if you resolve to feel more gratitude in the year 2022? And to show it? Your brain starts looking for things to be grateful for. As a result, your brain makes new neural connections.
As a result, you start to see more and more things to be grateful for. This makes you feel more cheerful. And you start to enjoy big and small things to be grateful for. You can also show your gratitude more to your family, your friends and colleagues. Then you’ll help them feel more grateful, too. Maybe you can even encourage them to also choose gratitude as a powerful resolution for the year 2022. Then inspire each other to be more grateful.
The year 2022 has begun uncertainly with yet another new corona variant, lock downs etc. You can’t change the circumstances. But you can change your mindset. Gratitude is therefore a powerful resolution for the year 2022.
How do you become stronger in gratitude?
With relatively little time, you can train your gratitude and allow it to grow stronger and stronger:
- When the alarm goes off, before you get up, think of three things you are grateful for
- Periodically throughout the day, think of things for which you are grateful. For example, you completed a task, you have food. Or a roof over your head
- Keeping a gratitude journal can also be very powerful
- When you lie in bed at night, before you go to sleep, think of three things you are grateful for
- Express gratitude to your family, friends and colleagues at work more often.
Feel the gratitude in your body as well. This strengthens the neural connections. This way you train your brain to be more and more receptive to the things in your life that are good as they are. This strengthens your focus and your sense of well-being. So plenty of reasons to choose gratitude as a powerful resolution for the year 2022.
