Exotic Guadeloupe sailing holiday

We discovered rough jungle, golden fields of sugarcane and stunning white beaches in this Guadeloupe sailing holiday.

We also discovered the flights are very affordable to where we started our Guadeloupe sailing holiday. Air France has sometimes really cheap deals: in high season (November-February) return tickets are already there for 600€!

Guadeloupe is a fascinating archipelago of islands.

They belong to the Leeward islands in the Caribbean sea and are still a part of France. Each island in this archipelago offers travelers something different while retaining its rich Franco-Caribbean culture and identity. Guadeloupe’s two main islands look like the wings of a butterfly and are joined together by a mangrove swamp.

This exotic part of France with  tropical nature and colorfull reefs, old French style villages, cheeses and wine made us want to stay here for ever ;-).

We spent two days driving around to absorb the variety and natural beauty of the ‘mainland’. Large, golden fields of sugarcane with old platantion houses and stunning white beaches on the east side. While on the west side we were pleasantly surprised by the unspoiled and rough jungle with its innumerous little jungle lakes and a spectaculair waterfall, the Carbet falls (Chutes de Carbet). Everything was easy to access and the locals here know how to keep their island clean and well kept. We completely felt in love with Guadeloupe last season when we had the chance to explore this beautiful area in our Guadeloupe sailing holiday!

Some idyllic little islands like Îles des Saintes and Marie-Galante, are part of the Guadeloupe archipelago and this also makes this area a perfect sailing destination.

Iles de Saint, for example, has a pitoresque village with a sweet, little church. Innumerous little shops with beautiful souvenirs and beach wear are alternated by cozy bars and little restaurants. The pelicans are showing off by diving full speed into the sea, trying to catch a fish. We spend hours just watching their performance. There are several small hikes which bring you to nice beaches with colorfull reefs to snorkel. Friends of ours have seen a dolphin visiting one of the bays on this island, who loved to swim with the snorkelers. Unfortunately we didn’t meet him or her, but this area is still beautifull for snorkeling.

You can also sail along the archipelago of Greece in a Yemaya catamaran sailing holiday.

This article was written in 2016. In the meantime we crossed the whole Caribbean sea. We crossed the Pacific ocean where we had wonderful times with our guest on some very unbelievable and beautiful places. We went trough Indonesia and crossed the Indian ocean. We sailed trough the red sea in the beginning of 2019.

In spring 2019 we arrived in Greece. We can honestly tell you we are very impressed by the Ionian islands in Greece. Thats why we have to tell you to put the Ionian archipelago on your bucket list if its not already on it! At least we decided to stay some time in Greece to explore the beautiful nature and the old culture (something we missed in the Caribbean).

Nowadays we focus a bit more on the mindfulness site of sailing. We use it to create a beautiful relaxing atmosphere in our holidays. You can read something about the playful energy in our article about mindfulness by adventure. Also the swimming in Greece is great, but the snorkeling is not as interesting as around Guadeloupe. However it’s a fantastic place for walking trough nature and visit beautiful very old and pittoresque little cities.
